Horizon Mission Statement

Horizon is an academically challenging program that offers extended learning in all subject areas at a whole school, integrated level. The Horizon program was developed to meet the needs of students who were highly motivated and committed to achieving their best in school.

Time management, organization, problem-solving and communication skills are integral components to the program. These skills are developed through dynamic, hands-on programming based on experiential learning. Trips, simulations and collaborative whole school events will all play an essential role in curriculum delivery. The focus is on analysis and critical thinking, using the grade 7 and 8 Ministry expectations as a starting point for content delivery.

The program also aims to build responsible citizenship through partnerships and creative programming. Equity is embedded throughout the program. While Horizon is a literacy-focused and tech based program, it prioritizes the whole student. Particular attention will be paid to the emotional, social and physical well-being of all students which can be seen through small group classes and a 9:45 am start time.

The ultimate aim is to have graduates who are independent, self-directed learners who ask questions, think outside the box, and embrace a global perspective.

Horizon admission policies are designed to be inclusive while providing insight into the nature of the program.
