LE LOUP-GAROU

Students have begun to learn a story titled Le loup-garou.  Today they were asked to recall the order and colours of the flowers collected by the little boy in today's telling.  They were then asked to calculate the total number of flowers collected by the boy.

Please talk to your children about the strategies they use to count groups of items containing the same amount of objects (Grade 2) and/or review strategies for multiplication, including memorization (Grade 3).

DICTÉE OU ET ON

Dictée will take place on Monday, May 6.  Students are bringing their dictée practice books home today.  This week I am providing the sentence.  In future weeks, this may not be the case.  This will depend on how the first dictée goes.

This week, the focus is on the sounds made by the blends OU and ON.

In addition to marking spelling, points will be awarded for correct capitalisation, punctuation and spacing.

La phrase :

« Le rouge-gorge Louis et le raton-laveur Gaston font attention quand le loup-garou court. »

UNE STRUCTURE STABLE ET SOLIDE

Gr 3 students have been building the stable and strong structures that they planned before my arrival.  Mme Scarcello will be back in the school this coming week and will help students test their structures.  The building challenge is that their structures should be able to support Mme Scarcello's standing weight.

LE ROYAUME

Students are beginning to learn a comptine which they have titled « Le royaume ».  By drawing and labelling the sequence in groups of three or four people, they are learning to share and plan the task.  They are also demonstrating their knowledge of vocabulary and spelling.

TROIS OBJETS DANS UN SAC

Each student is bringing home a paper bag today.  S/he should fill the bag with three to five objects that are special to her/him or that tell a little bit about who s/he is and bring the bag to class.

For the next week or so, each day, three students will be expected to talk about the importance to her/him of the « objets dans un sac » (the objects in the bag).  Students will take these objects back home once they have shown them to the class.

I will use this opportunity to get a sense of students’ speaking and listening abilities, as well as getting to know everyone a little better.

Today, I shared five objects that tell a little bit about who I am with the class: a mini-photo album from my son’s wedding, a children’s book I read with my granddaughter, a bike light, chimes and the microphone for my hearing aids.
