May 1, 2010 Email to BP Deepwater Horizon Suggesting, Inter Alia, Siphoning Off the Oil

"1) Use the robotoc arm of a ROV to place a cap on the open end of that riser that we keep seeing images of

2) Try to cap the other leaks in the pipe as well, using a similar technique

3) Send a flexible 5000 foot rubber hose down there to clamp on to the pipe at the first point of leakage after the wellhead and siphon the leaking oil off to barges and storage tanks at the surface

4) Get ROVs to tow large steel plates down to the riser, where they can be placed over the leaky riser, in effect smothering the leaks.

FYI, variations of these suggestions have been sent to Unified Command and NOAA over the course of the past six days. My frst suggestion, for instance, was forwarded April 25, whereas suggestions three and four were emailed April 29. While I have received acknowledgment that my suggestions have been received, I have no idea whether they have been seriously considered by the authorities. If they have been, and were subsequently rejected, I would like to know why.

Sincerely,

Gerald Graham"
