We're away

5:09am The sunrise provides greater visibility and we feel lucky the evacuation didn’t occur in the black of night. In many photos, the glowing squares you see on lifevests and lifeboats are not lights but highly reflective patches bouncing my camera’s flash.

About this time, a small, twin-engine jet (French military?) makes low, fast passes overhead several times. Another welcome event reassuring us that actions to assist us are underway by authorities.

5:15am Covered lifeboat confers. The young man in the doorway (English? Wind Song’s divemaster, Dave?) later took control of the evacuee group (passengers and crew now) at several points to call roll, give updates on where we were going and when, distribute passports, etc.
