The idea of transforming the Albridge St corner of the Surrey Square Park into a wildlife garden has been around since the park beginnings. Various reasons but mostly the lack of funding has prevented its creation. The project has been kept alive by the dedications of many residents that have never ceased to believe in it and have volunteered to regularly clean the site.

This persistence has at last won the day when the site has being chosen as a part of the Breathing Spaces/Springwatch initiative.

Breathing Places was a major BBC Learning campaign to inspire and motivate local communities to create and care for nature-friendly green spaces (BBC Link (BBC Link Specific for the Wildlife Area), Photogallery, and the photographer Allison).

On June 6th and 7th a big change was accomplished and the program of transformation were then completed in the autumn when plantings and further improvements was carried out.
