Femtotesla magnetometry Jun 15, 2023

New paper is published! Led by graduate student (now postdoc) Yaser Silani, we demonstrate a diamond magnetometer with a sensitivity of 70 fT after 1 second for kHz-MHz fields and use it to remotely detect Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance spectroscopy of powders. This is a collaboration with scientists from Los Alamos, Sandia, NuevoMR, and ODMR Technologies.

Congratulations to Dr. Silani for defending his dissertation titled "Femtotesla Magnetometry and Nanoscale Imaging with color Centers in Diamond." Yaser was awarded the OSE 2023 Best Dissertation Award for his thesis. He wil continue as a postdoc working on NMR spectroscopy in our lab for now.

Quantum Undergraduate Research Experience at CHTM (QU-REACH) - Mar 15, 2021

The Quantum Undergraduate Research Experience at the Center for High Technology Materials (QU-REACH) at UNM is inviting applications for undergraduate research experiences in Quantum Technologies for this summer. The program is face-to-face and will run from May 31 – August 13, 2021. Participants will receive a stipend of $6,000 for the summer. 

Projects are available in a broad range of disciplines (Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering) related to the three cornerstones of Quantum Technologies (Quantum Sensing, Quantum Communications, Quantum Computing). 

The application deadline is Friday, April 2 (instructions). 

Applications are welcome from all undergraduate students currently attending any College or University in the state of New Mexico who are interested in Quantum Technologies research.  Students from historically-excluded groups in STEM (including women, Hispanic, American Indian, and Black students) and students who are the first generation in their families to attend College are strongly encouraged to apply.

2019 Cottrell Scholar - Feb 11, 2019

Victor is awarded a 2019 Cottrell Scholars award from the Research Corporation for Scientific Advancement for his project titled: "Hyperpolarization and Detection of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Using Nitrogen Vacancy Centers in Diamond." The award is for a combination of NV NMR research and an educational plan for developing a interdisciplinary program in computational optics. The latter is in collaboration with Keith Lidke and others at UNM.
