Heather Durham, Founder, SVTAGS.org

Heather is one of the founding members of the US Green Building Council- Northern California Chapter, Silicon Valley Branch (USGBC-NCC, Silicon Valley Branch). As Program Chair, for the Silicon Valley Branch, she helped to shape the educational programs from 2008 to 2010.

In 2009 Ms. Durham launched the Silicon Valley -Technology, Art, Green and Sustainability (SVTAGS) TV Cable show. Her purpose in creating this show is to help educate the public, connecting them to what’s happening with technology, art, green and sustainability in Silicon Valley and beyond. When she thought of the acronym SVTAGS in 2006, the term “green washing” was not yet a coined term well known and she wanted to help people sort through “what’s green and whats’ not!” She has continued this venture with events planned on the Meetup.com site, speaking engagements, and on this SVTAGS.org educational beta Website.

Bring things that you would like to remake something with "hands-on."  If you want to observe and not make something... that's fine too!

There will be two other artist there displaying their work Will Tait and Rochelle Ford.

Will Tait~

He is a Bay Area Native and will have some of his art-work there for you to see. He has been doing art for years that ties into sustainability.  He got his start as a boat builder when he was 16 years old in the San Francisco Bay and later went on to art school in the East Coast.

Rochelle Ford~

Mrs. Ford is a local artist that has been doing sustainable art work for over 20 years. Her work is stretching into places across the country, in gardens, homes and entrances to public parks.  Mrs. Ford’s story is interesting in that she was an Executive Director and work up one day and decided to be an artists. She has always wanted to do this and thought if she did not start now, she would never get around to it. At 50 something years of age she quit her six-figure salary job and started to produce art.  Her first year as an artist she replaced her previous income. The next year she surpassed her salary that she made as an Executive Director. It’s never to late to follow your dreams!

These artists will have some interesting artwork for you to buy and take home for a special gift to someone. It's just a sampling of their work.

Other artists that will be there will be announced soon.

Refreshments provided at the meeting.

Location:

The Historic Hensley House

456 N 3rd St San Jose, Ca

Future events will have topics and speakers around clean-tech, alternative transportation, sustainable food/farming, green building, sustainable/green architecture and more.   If you are interested in hosting an event or speaking, please contact me today!

Also, since this is a new group we will be looking for sponsors to cover cost of food/beverages. Let us know if you have any suggestions on this or future Meetup topics for this group!

“It's good for the environment and for our souls to make things," Heather Durham "at this 1st Meetup/SVTAGS event sustainable artists are on hand that do everything from making fire-pits of metal to a techie gal that in her hobby time makes jewelry from reuse/reclaimed items. I hope people will enjoy this special group that we are bringing together for the first time in the Bay Area!"
