Smith Family

John Smith was born in Stroud, Gloucestershire in 1807. He married Sarah Bridges, b.1811 in Wiltshire, at St Michaels, Gloucester in 1836. He was listed as a bacon curer and bacon/cheese factor and ran his business from 13 Eastgate Street, Gloucester until his death in 1867. After his death his wife continued the business with the help of her sons, Henry, a widower in 1871, and John. John and Sarah had 7 children: Mary, Henry, John, Sarah, Emma, Frederick and Ellen. Henry re-married, to Jemima Jane Riseley (nee Rees), and moved to Barton Street where they ran a pork butchers shop. They had 3 children: Winifred, Mabel and Henry.
