About me

" Winners don't do different things , they do things differently"

Introduction

I was born in Vriddhachalam (Tamilnadu, India), which is known for the production of ceramic stuffs and abrasive materials in India and matured from a warm and supporting family.

Concepts of trust and responsibility have been central to my life and I believe on ‘Disseminating knowledge is power’.

Education

College education was an enjoyable experience and I was fortunate to have caring and inspirational teachers. I have been enthusiastic in studying control system, which led me to earn a PhD in Control and Guidance (2009) from Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, thesis titled “Intelligent Control of Robot Manipulators Using Softcomputing Techniques”, under the guidance of Prof. M. J. Nigam. I had received my Bachelors in Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Masters in Control Systems at Alagappa Chettiar College of Engineering & Technology and PSG College of Technology respectively in the year 1999 and 2002 respectively. My field of interest includes; intelligent systems and control, quantum control, computational intelligence, and robotics and automation.

Teaching Experience

I am currently working as Professor and Dean Academics, Agni College of Technology, Chennai, India which is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. I have more than 9 years of post PhD experience. I have been teaching and researching in more than 16 years in leading engineering institutions. My previous position includes Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader at Electronics and Computer Engineering in Caledonian College of Engineering Oman, affiliated to Glasgow Caledonian University, UK during March 2009 to Mar 2011. I had taught undergraduate and postgraduate level courses for Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering programmes. During my work, I was responsible for delivery of lectures, conduct of exams, assignments, tutorials, grades, student mentor, module leader, programme leader, lab in charge, editorial activities, ambassador and supervision of projects etc. Through my lectures & discussions, I emphasize on encouraging student's independent thinking and analytical reasoning to enhance their problem solving skills. I had been constantly applying innovative and appropriate teaching techniques and material which creates interest, understanding and enthusiasm among students.

I would be interested to teach Automatic Control Systems, System Theory, Control Systems, Robotics and Control, Signals and Systems, Digital Control Engineering, Advanced control systems, Digital Signal Processing, Analog Electronics, Digital Electronics, Linear Circuits, Neural Networks and Fuzzy systems, Fuzzy Control, Computation Intelligence, Soft Computing, Intelligent Control, Modeling and Simulation, Computer Networks, Computer Programming, Operating systems, etc.

Research Experience

My research under the broad area of ‘Computational Intelligence in Control Applications’ encompasses, (a) investigation of the ability of soft computing approaches for addressing various hard to design tasks and issues associated with the control of robot manipulators, (b) development of high performance tracking control algorithms in the presence of time-varying structured and unstructured uncertainties using computationally intelligent controllers, (c) integration and hybridization of computational intelligent methodologies with conventional controllers to overcome each other’s weakness leading to new approach for solving robotic control problems. The results of the developed intelligent algorithms have been very encouraging and would certainly open new opportunities for dealing with robot control of complex structures in manufacturing industry to increase the productivity and quality.

I had published several papers in peer reviewed, reputed and refereed International Journals and International conferences with high impact factors. I wish to promote the Department's research profile through continued scholarly publication and through collaboration and development of applied research with colleagues in and beyond the University.

My current research would be on ‘Computational intelligence for autonomous navigation and control of unmanned aerial vehicles’. This research will exploit the computational intelligence methodologies for autonomous navigation and control of UAVs. Our previous works on the Computational intelligence can easily be extended to develop the novel hybridized algorithm for optimization and navigation control of UAV’s. Control laws can be designed to achieve desired flight formations for a group of UAVs mimicking leader/follower formation. The leader UAV determines flight trajectories for a group of follower UAVs. Then different scenarios can be enacted upon depending upon the number of UAVs taking off and time of takeoff for each UAV in the formation. My future research would also emphasize on exploration of other computational intelligent methodologies like quantum computing, rough sets, extended fuzzy logic and their hybrids to overcome each other’s weakness, leading to new approach to solve problems of robotic control. Furthermore, experimental implementation of the Adaptive neuro fuzzy control algorithms for manipulator control under uncertainties and stability issues related to it can be investigated.

Professional Activities, Memberships and Honors

I am the editor in chief of Scopus covered Journal (International Review on Automatic Control). I had been invited for various professional activities and involved in societies which enable me to update my area of expertise with latest advancements for taking up effectively the postgraduate and the research programmes, and also to incorporate research activities into my regular teaching. To mention significant activities, I am serving as; Associate Editor for IASTED International Journal of Computers and Applications and International Journal of Control and Intelligent Systems; Editorial Board Member of International Journal of Electronic Transport, International Journal of Computer Science & Security; Reviewer for Journal of Intelligent and Robotic Systems, IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, ISA (Instrument Society of America) Transactions, International Journal of Adaptive Control and Signal Processing, Computers & Chemical Engineering etc; and Program Committee Chair for various IEEE conferences.

My memberships in professional societies and International bodies to promote professional and research activities includes; technical committee member on soft computing of IEEE SMCS, IASTED Technical Committee on Control (2009-2012), senior member of IACSIT, member of International Association of Engineers, executive member of IACSIT Automation and Robotics Society, and member of various IAENG societies. My biography is listed in Marqui’s Who’s Who in the World 2009 and The International Biographical Centre Cambridge and I was a recipient of the award of Ministry of Human Resources and Development Fellowship for my doctoral research.

Conclusion
