Hello and welcome to my web page!

Here is my bio....

The early years: I was born and raised in Minnesota's Twin Cities, growing up in a house near the Mississippi River with my parents, brothers and grandparents. Attended Catholic churches, grade schools and high school, all of which are now defunct. Went to the "U" and graduated with a major in Greek and minor in math, Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude, and the first member of my family to graduate from university.

First career, classicist: Moved to the San Francisco Bay area ("Dope! Enlightenment! Getting laid!" -R.Crumb). Earned an M.A. in Classics from Stanford University. Spent a year as a Fellow of the American School of Classical Studies in Athens, Greece. Earned a Ph.D. in Classics from Stanford with a dissertation on Euripides. Spent several years as a gypsy scholar teaching at universities around the country.

Second career, computer programmer: Left academia and moved back to (by now) Silicon Valley. Spent the next 25 years working mainly on financial systems at Stanford's admin computing center. Had the good fortune to work with some great people and a marvelous dbms/programming language called SPIRES. Felt at times, though, like a character in a Dilbert cartoon -- latterly, Bob the Dinosaur. Ended with the title of Principal Software Developer.

Third career, geezerette: After layoff/redundancy and retirement, moved to an 1890's house in Northeastern Wisconsin near the Fox River, which though not the Mississippi is nonetheless very pretty. Spent several years ripping out all the linoleum and wallpaper, stripping and refinishing the woodwork, and painting all the rooms different colors. Am now preparing to start gardening.

Other current interests:

...and of course, El Husband, Jon Corelis, with whom I have been sharing most of the above for more than forty-five years. (N.B. I am not the Muse, just the Proofreader.)

"Why yes, it has been rather a long, strange trip."
