(Wits.) 1941; awarded bronze medal of the S.A. Medical Association for most distinguished graduate of the year, in addition to the Association of University Women's prize for the most distinguished woman graduate. M.O. to Roedean School; head of Cytology Unit, S.A. Institute for Medical Research in 1976. Senior Cytopathologist, University School of Pathology and S.A.I.M.R.. Fellow of the International Academy of Cytology. Awarded M.D. in 1977 (Wits). She trained a generation of technologists and medical graduates and when the S.A.I.M.R. created a School of Cytotechnology at its Baragwanath Branch Laboratory, this was named the Ann Berry School of Cytotechnology. An avid student of nature, her interest in wild flowers, grasses, shells, birds and animals was more than that of an amateur. She was an excellent photographer and watercolorist, particularly of plants. 47. Robert Kay (Robin) Walker, (son of Georgina Grace Venn) b. 29 Nov 1923 in Isipingo, Natal, d. 28 Apr 2000 in George. Awarded major scholarship to Michaelhouse in 1937 where he matriculated aged 16 in 1939. After 6 months in post-matric he returned to Johannesburg and worked in an architectural firm. He enlisted in 1942 and was seconded to the Royal Artillery Ack Ack, a Scottish Regiment , in which he served in Italy and Yugoslavia. After the war he qualified as an architect at the University of the Witwatersrand and was awarded a Rotary Foundation Fellowship post-graduate bursary to study town planning at London University. Back in Johannesburg he became a practicing architect with the firm Steffan Ahrens before joining Fleming and Cooke as resident partner in Nyasaland (now Malawi). During his time there the Central African Federation broke up and Malawi became an independant state. Many of the buildings designed by the firm were civic and included the hospital, High Court, and Reserve Bank. In 1962 he was awarded the OBE in recognition of his work in Nyasaland. Back in Johannesburg in 1963 he becme involved with commercial aspects of the building industry and was Sales Director with W.F. Johnstone and Fibreglass SA, before joining the C.S.I.R. He retired in 1988 to Plettenburg Bay. He was a dedicated and distinguished Rotarian all his adult life. He married Carol Adrienne Lautre, b. 1927 in London; d. 2016 in London.
