Getting Started

First Steps

Download Action HQ from the Google Play Store and open it. When you first launch Action HQ, the following will happen:

    • The Action HQ icon will appear in your device's status bar.
    • The main Action HQ screen will appear, listing the default actions registered in Action HQ.

You can perform actions from the main screen in the Action HQ app. It shows a lot more actions with their full names because space isn't as limited as in the notification bar. However, you can safely choose never to interact with the main screen and only with the notification bar.

You can also perform actions from the notification bar. Just pull down the notification bar and you'll see something like:

The Action HQ icon at the beginning opens the main screen of the Action HQ app, allowing you to see all the actions that are registered. Because the notification bar has limited space you may not see all the actions you've created, so tapping the Action HQ icon gives you access to these.

Tapping one of the icons to the right will perform the appropriate action, eg. tapping the Tweet icon will open Twitter, ready for you to post a tweet.

How to Use Action HQ

As an example, let's say you're browsing Wikipedia in Chrome and you decide to send an email. The steps you'd take are:

    • Swipe down the notification bar.
    • Tap the Email action.
    • Enter your email details once GMail opens up.
    • Once you click Send, you're back to browsing in Chrome.

Missing Apps

When an action is registered against an app that isn't installed anymore then it will appear greyed out with a generic Android icon and warning sign. This means that you should either install the appropriate app to handle the action or you can go ahead and delete the action.

Since Action HQ comes with prebuilt actions, some may not have the right apps on your device, eg. Facebook is packaged with Action HQ but you may not have the Facebook app installed. In this case you can just go ahead and delete the action from the manage actions screen.

Customisations

The default actions that come with Action HQ may not support all the apps you have installed on your device.

You can thus customise many aspects of Action HQ. Actions can be added or modified from the manage action screen and the notification bar display can be customised from general settings.
