Getting around Ljubljana (and to the hostel)

https://www.visitljubljana.com/en/visitors/travel-information/

Ljubljana city centre is quite small, and everything is reachable on foot. The old town is closed for all traffic. The

main road, Slovenska (from Bavarski dvor to the centre is allowed only for public buses). There is 10 minutes’ walk

from hostel to the centre.

Public bus transport

The only public transport in Ljubljana are buses. Most of them (the important ones) lead to Bavarski dvor station.

The bus to the hostel is Bus No. 6 (direction Dolgi most is written on the display), going south towards City Centre,

after a few stops, the bus turns right (passing Faculty of Arts). After five (Tobačna) or six stops (Hajdrihova) get off

and walk to the Hostel Six points.

We will take the same bus No. 6 to the field research.

Map of public bus lines: https://www.lpp.si/sites/www.jhl.si/files/dokumenti/shema_dnevnih_linij_maj_2021.pdf

To ride the bus, URBANA city card is obligatory (no cash or credit card is accepted on the bus). You can pay your

fare on a LPP bus by an Urbana card with preloaded credit.

You can enter the bus only at the driver’s gate. There is a green device on the vertical handle. You pay your fee by

pressing the card to the device. You will hear a triple beep when your money is successfully withdrawn.

Changing buses within 90 minutes is free, but you still have to validate Urbana.

One fare is 1,3 €.

You will need URBANA and at least 2 rides credit (2,6 €) for first day of field research. The rest is up to you

(depends on using on the day of arrival and departure).

URBANA city card

https://www.lpp.si/en/single-city-card-urbana

https://www.lpp.si/en/frequently-asked-questions-and-answers

You can buy your Urbana card at any of the Urbana machines, which are mostly located in the immediate vicinity

of bus stops, at kiosks and newsagents’, at selected petrol stations and post offices.

You can buy it already at the train/bus station or at URBANOMAT (Urbana machines). They are located on all

larger bus stops (Bavarski dvor also). You can load credit on your Urbana card wherever Urbana cards are sold.

The maximum amount of credit on an Urbana card is EUR 50.00. You can load your credit by cash or credit card.

Taxi service

https://www.visitljubljana.com/en/visitors/travel-information/getting-around/taxi/

Taxi can be ordered by phone or picked up at the street (later being usually more expensive). Within the city you

should pay up to 10€ (from hostel to the station it should be less than 5€; if it is more, you’ve been cheated ).

Most common services are Taxi Metro, Cammeo, Rondo, Laguna etc.

City Bike

https://www.bicikelj.si/en/home

You can also use Urbana for city bikes called BicikeLJ.

You have to register and buy a weekly ticket by credit card.

https://www.bicikelj.si/en/offers/groups/list#72914

You can use the bike for free for 60 minutes. In 60 minutes, you can reach all parts of Ljubljana.

To participate the workshop (at least staying at the Hostel/Hotel) you have to be TVR (Tested or Vaccinated or

Recovered).

PCR/RAT tests

RAT (Rapid Antigen Tests) tests are free, without appointment. You can do them every day in the centre, but you

only receive TXT message on your phone. If you want printed version, you need to make appointment at the

Health Unit Ljubljana, there is one, on a walking distance to the hostel:

https://goo.gl/maps/oFDV1nKZ6pZCc5ND9 and from Stari Tišler: https://goo.gl/maps/1QE9muyzZW8KjBhRA The

test with printed version is payable (around 20 €). You can do the RAT test also at the Airport.

PCR test can be done privately and cost around 100 €.

Since 22.6.2021, Slovenia is on the COVID19 GREEN list of countries according to EU standards, but there are still

some restrictions:

– TVR.

– Facial masks in public indoor places (shops, hotels, faculty, public transport etc.).

– Recommended hands disinfection.

What do I need (apart from basic things) to know/bring for the workshop in Slovenia?

– Some proof that you are TVR (Tested or Vaccinated or Recovered). It is your responsibility. If checked

by inspection and you do not have it, you can receive a substantial fine (400-4000 €).

– Proper field clothes and shoes for field research.

– There are really lot of mosquitoes in Slovenia this year so bring mosquito repellent. The problem is not in

Ljubljana but at field research.

– Tics are possibly infected with Lyme disease (borreliosis) and meningoencephalitis. It is strongly

recommended to apply tick repellent when going to the field research.

– The weather will be possibly warm to hot (especially on the Wednesday field research). Bring sunscreen

cream, a hat or cap, and additional water. You can drink water from the tap everywhere (unless especially

notified), so just pour it in flask or bottle at the hostel.

– If you forget anything, you can find all the shops in the centre or near the hostel.

o Local grocery shops (food, drinks…) are called Mercator. You can find them anywhere. The closest

to the hostel is: https://goo.gl/maps/BbaJ5HSvbxRVRatE6 There is also bakery (Mlinar), fruit shop

just around a corner.

o There are some shopping centres outside on the edge of the town:
