Gmax SFC1 model conversion

This is a brief guide for using gmax to convert SFC models. First, please make sure you have installed gmax. You can follow this page for installation.

Download sfc gmax plugin and extract plugins folder, winmm.dll to gmax folder. Overwrite all files.

Start gmax, select file -> import to import a model. (You can click the pic to see full size)

At the dialog, select the model you want to import. Here I use SFC3 fed starbase for example:

When it ask "Would you like to replace the entire scene", select Yes.

Based on if it's a break model, select Yes or No here:

You should see this when the model is imported:

Now we select the gmax material navigator, it's a three-colored ball icon on toolbar:

The gmax material navigator looks like this, make sure you select the right tool:

There is a list of materials, double click the material which has illumination map to show a material editor. (Not click the illumination map)

Scroll down and you should see a list of maps. Click the "+" to show it. There is the illumination map. We have to remove it.

Now, do not close material editor, click on the "New" checkbox in the material navigator:

Drag the "None" material and drop onto the illumination map so it's set to none. You will notice the checkbox is also unchecked when you drop it.

When you are done, just close the material editor. Go to the material navigator and select "Entire". You will notice illumination map is gone.

Go through these steps until you remove all illumination maps. (Yes, you have to do it one by one)

Close the material navigator. Now we can export the model. Just select file -> export:

Enter your new filename and click save. This will conclude the sfc1 conversion tutorial.
