Garden update, etc. (June 10, 2010)

Hi All,

The thought of moving back to Seattle to get some sun has crossed my mind. I'm also thinking about applying for a Scuba Gear Grant to supply all the members of the Community Garden!

Now we have a bunch of stuff to tell you about so here goes:

1. Anyone who has a truck and can get over to the Pole Yard (McFarland Cascade is located at 977 Baldy Mountain Road (263-2141) to get a load or two of shredded bark, please do so. They load you up for free and we really need a few loads to finish the paths. I'd go but I blew out my rear car window and back loading and unloading my lawnmower on Tues. at the garden. Call the pole yard first to make sure they still have the bark.

2. We still have a few plotters who need to send in their forms and money. Please send them into Sandpoint Community Garden,PO Box 986,Sandpoint, ID 83864 asap so we can balance our books.

3. July 4th is the big parade and we'd love to have our Community Garden members participate. We did this last year and it was great fun. We will send the details as to the meeting place as soon as we can. Bring a shovel, rake, watering can, bag of manure (optional) or any other gardening attire to show our community who we are.

4. I've attached a flyer "Community Garden Wish List" that would be great to handout to applicable vendors, friends, strangers etc. Just print it out and help us get some much needed supplies.

5. Free Movie at the Library -

"Numen - The Nature of Plants" Wednesday, June 16, 6:30 p.m. "It is a 95-minute award winning documentary film focusing on the healing power of plants and the natural world. Inspiring and educational, Numen is a magnificent depiction of the healing essence of plants and brins the same awareness to medicine and the medical industry that the organic food movement has brought to food and the food industry."

6. Rock Dust - You tube video - http://www.youtube.co/watch?v=163n2n7Bm5I - This is something that the Community Garden can do and it's quite amazing. Wait until you see the veggies being grown in conditions much more severe than ours!

7. Weeds around garden beds. Please take care of the weeds around your individual garden beds. By keeping them pulled it makes the garden look so much better. And anyone who hasn't started planting yet, please let us know if you aren't going to plant. We have a waiting list for people who really want to garden and they would love to take over any beds that won't be used.

That's it for now. And the garden is looking beautiful and bountiful. I love all the colors of the different vegetables that are popping up. Now let's get some sun for the tomatoes that are longing to be planted!

Thanks to all of you who are making this community project and edible piece of art!
