Gringle

The Tragic Death of Gringle...

Gringle was one of the original characters in the campaign. He survived the Lunar siege of Jonstown, and was a major character in the early adventures, where he helped destroy the Krarsht temple at Rabbit Hat Farm, and gathered the wood of Giantboot trees which led him, along with Eric, Aransar and Callum into the belly of the Eel. He left the party for several seasons after making friends with the regulars at Loud Lilina's in Pavis, and settling down there in his cups, when they met up again when the other characters, including Orstanor and Brand, now, were searching for Duke Raus's Wand of the Seven Phases of the Moon. It was whilst travelling west to the city of Refuge that the party was set upon by Cacodemon worshipping ogres. The leader singled out Gringle as his target for a threatened sever spirit spell, and Eric, partly through disbelief that the ogre would use this magic (I heavily suspect) interposed himself between Gringle and his foe. Eric died to save Gringle, but during the course of the ensuing battle, Gringle was struck a grievous blow and began to die. Brand and Callum tried to reach him in time, but Brand was unable to cast the simple healing spell that would have prevented death, and Gringle died in his arms. It was the single biggest loss of life that the party ever suffered, and an ironic and tragic one at that...Gringle died without a god. He often offered prayers to Minlinster, god of brewing, but had never joined a Rune Cult. Who knows where his soul went?
