About RSST

Goals of the Team: learn the basic rules of competitive swimming; learn all 4 strokes (Butterfly, Backstroke, Breaststroke, and Freestyle); swimmers will respect teammates, coaches and themselves; parents and swimmers will learn how swim meets are run and how to work as a team.  

Practice Information: all practices are held at the RCHS Pool.   Times are dependent on the age of the swimmers.

 EARLY BIRD RENSSELAER SUMMER SWIM TEAM PRACTICE

Purpose:  to become familiar with the swim team, to get a head start on the season, and/or to decide if swimming is a good fit

Dates:  Monday-Friday, April 29 – May 10

Times:  3:45 pm-4:45 pm for 9/10 and 11/12 age groups

             5:00 pm-6:00 pm for 8 and unders and 13-19 age groups

Cost:  $25.00 per swimmer

Requirement:  must be able to swim one length of the pool if between ages 5-8 and two lengths of the pool (25 yards on front and 25 yards on back) if 9 years and older.

      *PLEASE NOTE:  if you’ve never swam on the RSST before, you will need to pass a swim test conducted by the Head RSST Coach 


RENSSELAER SUMMER SWIM TEAM REGULAR PRACTICE

Dates:  Monday-Friday, May 13 – May 24  (while RCSC is still in session)

Times:  3:45 pm-4:45 pm for 9/10 and 11/12 age groups

             5:00 pm-6:00 pm for 8 and unders and 13-19 age groups

Cost:  $80.00 for 1st swimmer, $75 for 2nd  swimmer, $70 for 3rd swimmer in a family, etc.

            (A portion of this fee will go toward postseason picnic)

Summer Practice Schedule:  Beginning May 28 after school is out

*Swimmers are not required to attend both the morning and evening practices; they can attend what works best for their family’s schedule.  

*Swimmers are required to attend at least 1 practice before each meet in order to be eligible to swim in a meet. 



Swim Meets: RSST will have 7 meets  held on Wednesdays and Saturdays; swimmers are grouped by gender and age for individual events and relays; age groups are 8 & Under, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, and 15-19. The 8 & Under age swims 25 yards/meters, all others can swim 50, 100, or 200 yards/meters. Each swimmer swims up to 3 individual events and 2 relays.  In order to allow swimmers to receive experience, swimmers may be put in timed exhibition heats of events.  Swimmers receive ribbons for their placings unless disqualified.

PSSL Conference Meet: RSST is a member of the Prairie Sumer Swim League which includes teams from Benton, Lafayette, Fountain Central, Lafayette Country Club, McCutcheon. and Monticello.  On a rotating basis, PSSL Conference preliminaries and finals will be hosted by one of these teams.  Each team will place two swimmers and one relay team in each event.  Not all swimmers will compete in the conference meet.

Parent Responsibilities: parents provide transportation to and from practices as well as to and from swim meets. Away meets are held at schools 40-60 minutes away. Parents will also provide help at all home swim meets (timing, judging, concession stand, etc).

Fees : Regular Season team registration fee is $80

Team Uniform: girls must practice and compete in a 1-piece suit, boys may wear a regular suit, jammers, or Speedo-style suit; swimmers will provide swimsuit- swim cap and goggles
