BELOW HIS KNIFE IS THE JUNK CRAP MADE IN PAKISTAN WHICH IS MADE FROM WHATEVER JUNK STEEL THEY CAN FIND WHICH IS MOSTLY RAILROAD CAR BODY STEEL WHICH IS MILD LOW CARBON SOFT STEEL YOU CAN NEVER GET TO TAKE AN EDGE NO MATTER WHAT. 

PICTURED BELOW IS WHAT JUNK PAKISTAN DAMASCUS LOOKS LIKE.  notice the color difference compared to the good damascus steel knife above and the number of layers the maker put in the steel. this takes time and money to make damascus with this many layers.  

if you see hundreds of knives on a website or facebook page that look like the junk pictures you can be sure that they are mass produced cheap pakistan knives.  

there are guys in the states that buy cheap junk pakistan blanks and pass them off as knives they make.  i know of 1 guy in texas that does this and he sells them in a gas station.  if you see "damascus knives" as a business or website name it is also a dead giveaway to a junk knife since they do not want to associate their real name to their junk.    

another way is to look for the absence of a makers mark.   junk pakistan knife makers do not put makers marks on their knives.  they do not want people knowing they make junk knives.  my knife steel i use is already hardened which makes marking my knives difficult but my reputation is all i need.  it is also proprietary steel.

THE ABOVE KNIFE SHAPED OBJECT PICTURE WAS TAKEN AT RANDOM FROM A JUNK KNIFE SHAPED OBJECT MAKERS WEBSITE OUT OF HUNDREDS OF KNIVES.  A KNIFE SHAPED OBJECT LIKE THIS BUT MADE WITH GOOD STEEL WOULD BE A LOT MORE THAN $30.
