When is tuba player required? (English page)
Dear Orchestra members except tuba player(s),
This site is mainly for amateur tuba players belonging to Orchestra. At selecting compositions for next concert, Tuba players may feel uneasy whether tuba's turn exist on the candidate song.
Tuba players may suffer that string and wood players say "I hate difficult songs!". In addition, usually orchestral works with Tuba requires large members including Harp, or special instruments which needs extra payment (Is Tuba extra instrument?) So it costs much more than compositions by Mozart, Beethoven or older.
On the other hand, even if the compositions requires tuba, sometimes the Tuba's turn is very few. For example, Dvorak's 9th symphony or Mahler's "Das Lied von der Erde" has less than 10 bars for Tuba part, though the duration of the work is more than 30 minites! Maybe tuba player is crying if such song is decided for next concert and someone says to Tuba player "It should be OK for you since your turn exist!"
This site shows compositions using Tuba, with its difficulty, and whether it is enjoyable for Tuba player. I hope this site helps your selections for next concert.
