Prerequisite: A grade of C (or better) in MAT 172 or placement by the department.

This means that if you have never taken precalculus then you cannot take this course

and must register for precalculus.

Grades: It is department policy that students must pass the uniform departmental final to pass this course. The final is worth 40% of the grade. The other exams are worth 20% of the grade each. There will be 5 quizes randomly given over the semester based upon the homework from the previous lesson; each is worth 4% of the grade.

Homework is assigned on the official course syllabus beneath the lesson that covers that material and it is expected to be completed before the next meeting. It will take about 4 hours for each assignment. You must read each section of the book before doing the problems for that section. The answers to all homework questions are available in the back of the textbook. As you do each problem check your work. If you are unsure why some problems are wrong come to office hours before class. Help is also available in the math lab. On random days there will be quizzes based on the homework! But homework will not be collected.

Schedule: The schedule of topics is on the official syllabus. Class starts with Lesson 1 Wed 9/3. There is no class Wed 9/24 or Mon 10/13. So Exam I is Lesson 13 (Wed 10/22) and Exam II is Lesson 23 (Wed 11/26).

The final exam will be given during finals week.
