In the beginning, these self-taught pianists did not read music, but were able to learn advanced pieces using synthesia and Jane's tutorials. The self-taught encountered huge resistance and skepticism from traditional learners, who claimed they were frauds.

By 2018, it became abundantly clear that many such right-brain learners exist. They do not need the traditional left-brain learning method that most classical pianists used in the past.

Jane discovered their talent by reading their comments posted under her tutorials, and from personal email.

2014 Scholarship Award Sean Rooney

Update. In Feb 2018 Sean Rooney won 2nd prize at the Dublin Piano Competition.

He played the Chopin Ballade No. 1.

Noteworthy Tutorial Users

One of the most moving experiences was when a viewer and his wife from Venezuela visited. Héctor played the Chopin Nocturne in C# minor on our Steinway D. It was the best performance of the piece we had ever heard.
