University of Leeds (1995-2009)

The Department of Philosophy at the University of Leeds is, after Oxford, the largest in the UK (around 40 people). It incorporates History and Philosophy of Science, and boasts probably the largest collection of professional metaphysicians ever gathered together in one institution. They all, together with colleagues interested in philosophy of mind, language and aesthetics, belong to the Centre for Metaphysics and Mind. I was Professor here from 1995–2009. The Leeds Department was and is great place to work, with lots of brilliant colleagues, in one of England's most vibrant cities, with the best opera outside London, and an excellent choir, the Leeds Philharmonic, with whom I was privileged to sing from 2004-2009.
