- 1979 graduated from Musashino Art University with a degree in Oil Painting (figure and still life)
- studied oil painting for two years at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris
- graduated in the 8th class of the Image Forum Institute of the Moving Image in Tokyo, where he was a student of Toshio Matsumoto, the experimental filmmaker
- currently a professor at Musashino Art University
