Rutgers University

16:180:593 QMRA & One Health Engineering (3, Fall Even Years)

Application of quantitative microbial risk assessment and One Health framework for problems at the intersection of public, animal, and environmental health and engineered systems. Case studies of classical and current issues (e.g., antimicrobial resistance). Note prerequisites include an undergraduate course in statistics.

16:180:591 Sustainable Environmental Biotechnology (3, Spring Odd Years)

Application of fundamental principles of environmental microbiology to bio-electrochemical systems, nutrient removal and recovery, biogas production, biofiltration, disinfection, and microbially influenced corrosion

16:180:574 Groundwater Engineering (3, Spring Even Years)

Porous media, fundamental equations of groundwater flow; confined flow; unconfined flow; hydraulics of wells; numerical methods; groundwater contamination; investigation; remediation and clean-up; monitoring computer applications.

14:180:382 Hydraulic & Environmental Engineering (3, Spring)

Basic concepts of viscous flows; conservation laws (mass, momentum, and energy); pipe flows and open-channel flows; water distribution systems; hydraulic modeling (stream and marine pollution); air, stream, and marine pollution problems. Computer applications. Prerequisite: 14:180:387

Civil and Environmental Engineering

CEE 3104 Introduction to Environmental Engineering (3)

Overall view of environmental engineering with emphasis on hazardous waste management, water treatment, wastewater treatment, air pollution and its control, solid waste management, groundwater pollution, and environmental regulations.

CEE 3304 Fluid Mechanics Laboratory

Laboratory experiments and demonstrations.

Engineering Education

ENGE 1114 Exploration of Engineering Design (Workshop leader)

Builds on principles and practice of engineering design introduced in 1024 and introduces various discipline-specific engineering tools. Topics covered include: engineering design cycle; patent application and search; basic project management; written and oral communications; computer assisted design and analysis; the graphics language; working in a team environment. Requires successful completion of a team-based design project. For students planning to major in Aerospace, Biological Systems, Chemical, Civil and Environmental, Industrial systems, Materials Science, Mechanical, Mining and Minerals, and Ocean Engineering.
