Calorimeter Analysis with the NCFS-Pack

In this course experimental data obtained from heavy-ion collisions

at the CERN accelerator complex in Geneva will be analysed.

The analysis will be performed in a classroom environment using the

NCFS-Pack scientific analysis framework.

The focus will be on analysis and interpretation of the calorimeter

signals from the WA98 experiment.

In particular the data of the electromagnetic calorimeter will be used

to identify photons and reconstruct neutral pi mesons by means of an

invariant mass analysis. In the analysis process also the contamination

of the photon sample by (hadronic) background signals will be investigated.

In addition to the data analysis issues, also physics aspects like

rapidity, transverse momentum and event centrality will be addressed.
