Getting around this site

Welcome to WGNSS Events: Birds, Bugs, and Botany!

Experiencing nature in the Saint Louis Missouri area

We focus on experiencing nature. We have 3 groups devoted to Botany, Birding/ Ornithology, and Entomology. Beyond plants, birds, and insects, our members are interested in everything in nature. We live in the St. Louis Missouri area and beyond. Join us! Announcements & General Meetings

We are seeking volunteers for the nominating committee, as well as candidates for President, Vice President, and Member-At-Large. New members are especially encouraged to volunteer. WGNSS needs your skills and talents! New officers will be installed at the WGNSS spring banquet in May.

Our next board meeting will be on Wednesday, February 3 at Powder Valley Nature Center at 7:00 PM. All members are welcome!

Our February general meeting will be a joint meeting with St. Louis Audubon at the Creve Coeur Community Center on Tuesday, February 16 at 7:00 PM. Sarah Miller, US Army Corps of Engineers biologist, will speak about efforts on behalf of a local, endangered population of birds, "The Interior Least Tern at Riverlands." Miller will give us an update on the Interior Least Tern Habitat Project at Riverlands Migratory Bird Sanctuary in West Alton, MO.

WGNSS will have a display table the the Missouri Botanical Garden's Backyard Bird Festival, Saturday, Feb. 6 from 7:30 AM–3:00 PM. The event will be held at the MO. Botanical Garden 4344 Shaw Boulevard.

This month's newsletter includes a botany report, and article about lichens, Pickle Springs natural area, and the Weldon Spring Christmas Bird Count. Suggested topics for articles  include accounts of field trips, info about local natural areas, review of nature-related books. Submit your articles or events to Editor at tec.c.macrae AT monsanto.com. Photos are encouraged and will be published on a space-available basis.
