First Pay-Homage Ceremony on 20 June 2008 

MSAM organized the first Pay-homage ceremony to founder and pioneer teachers of the Department of Marine Science at M3 Food Center in Yangon on 20 June 2008. 

In fact, it was established as Department of Marine Biology at Moulmein Degree College (Now, University of Mawlamyine) in 1973.

Before the establishment of Marine Biology Department, Marine Botany and Marine Zoology were taught as a specilized subjects of Botany and Zoology major respectively and they were taught only at 4th. year (final year).

After the establishment of the Marine Biology Department, only 80 students were accepted from various Universities and Colleges of the whole country to learn marine biology subjects at the 3rd and 4th. year (final year) level only at the Moulmein Degree College. They were conferred BSc (Marine Biology) degree from the then Arts and Science University of Rangoon (Now, University of Yangon).

Then, Marine Biology Department was restructured as Marine Science Department in 1986 and marine science subjects were taught from the first year. So, students could be enrolled as first year students when they passed their matriculation examination.

Nowadays, two more Marine Science Departments were established at University of Pathein, Ayeyawaddy Division, and University of Myeik, Tanintharyi Division.
