Caregivers of Brisbane,

Happy New Year! (I think according to Seinfeld, I can still say that as long as it's January.....or was it the other way around?)

Our first membership meeting of the year was FUN! We didn't get a whole lot planned, but we threw around a ton of ideas...and laughed and talked and chatted....and got very excited about the year ahead...and chatted and talked and laughed.

Attending: um….my two kids were in tow, so I was a little distracted…let me do my best…Jessica A, DeeDee, Ana Maria, Kristen, Vicki, Jennifer B, Elisa…and sooo sorry if I forgot someone!

So as a heads up, let me share with you what we have to look forward to in 2012 (in no particular order):

  • Tuesday, Jan 31st from 6:30pm to 8:00pm -- There will be a Kindergarten Readiness Presentation by BES and Panorama Elementary School Principal Chad Carvey. Get the scoop (and bring your questions) from a current elementary school principal! Mr. Carvey will be discussing kinder readiness, public/private school philosophy, gifted/advanced kids, learning needs, kindergarten curriculum, tips and more. Location: Silverspot Pre-School; 4 Solano Rd, Brisbane. Contact Angel with questions angelkane72@hotmail.com.

  • April -- Improve outdoor space behind library and community center. An organization called Rebuilding Together chose us to, well, REBUILD! The Mothers of Brisbane will assist with the gardening portion of the renovation and we need all the hands we can get. I believe this will be the last Saturday in April, so mark that on your calendar as a day to get blissfully dirty.

  • July -- We will try to harness energy this year to create a family friendly 4th of July event right here in town. Let us know if you are interested in helping.

  • April -- Egg hunt the Saturday before Easter at the tot lot geared for under 5's. We always band together a group to make this really fun event happen. Let us know if you'd like to make it happen.

  • October -- Day in the Park. Cotton candy. Fun. Need I say more?

  • Sept/Oct -- Family picnic in the park. Always fun and Autumn seems to offer more predictable weather. Stay tuned.

ONGOING

  • Every Friday, 10am-12pm -- Playgym continues

  • Mom's night out. Ana Maria is churning the wheels on our next one. Email her to let her know when you could attend in February and what you would be interested in doing. ana_maria_h@hotmail.com

  • Second Thursday of the month -- Membership gathering. Come meet other local moms at Bamboo Garden from 7-8:30. Come early, come late, just come!

  • Renovate community park playground. This is still in the works and VERY exciting. Stay tuned for opportunities to participate and lend a hand.

  • Continue to support new moms through meals and MOB gift

  • Outreach to families with older kids and possible collaboration with BEST/PTO on events

  • Continue or expand charitable work. Because of the 49ers/Giants game, our last planned Food Bank outing was actually cancelled. Disappointing, but we will try to secure a new date for this very soon. Please let us know of other volunteering ideas where the little ones can also participate.

I'm probably forgetting something….but we’ll be in touch. I will leave you with one more thought….it would be lovely to add an Education Coordinator or two to the MOB team. We are a very lax bunch just looking to do great things for our kids, if you considered this for even a moment, call/email me or anyone else on the board or just come to a membership gathering (second Thursdays)….new moms, single moms, experienced moms, near-Brisbane-but-live-somewhere-else-moms, working moms, soon-to-be moms….All eligible!!!

Hope to see you soon!
