Community Involvement

Just some of the ways we have helped our community.

Bobbie's Hospice

A number of our guild members made Bed Quilts (enough to cover all the beds) and a few Table Runners for Bobbie's Hospice. These were presented to Bobbie's Hospice representative Shirley McAlary at the Oct. 3, 2018 Guild Meeting.

Local Charitable Donations

Regularly as part of our Quilt Show (such as from a Bag Challenge or Raffle Sales) or from Guild Funding (when some need is identified at a meeting), we make a donation to a local charity. Recipients in the past have included Hospice Saint John, YM/YWCA, Hestia House, Seniors Outreach, Safe Harbour, Saint John School Milk Fund and others.

Bobby's Hospice

Funded by the guild in 2016, three Guild members made two special quilts for Bobby's Hospice Passing Ceremony.

Victoria Quilts

As identified on their website: "Victoria's Quilts Canada (VQC) provides handmade quilts to people living with cancer in Canada. By providing these quilts, we hope to bring physical comfort to those dealing with cancer as well as spiritual comfort in knowing that they are not alone in their struggle." MPQG has made a number of donations of quilt tops to this worthy cause.

Ridgewood Veterans Hospital

From 2011 to 2106, the members worked very hard on making Thank You Quilts for each bed at Ridgewood Veterans Hospital, initiated and managed by guild member (and former President) Carolyn Wishart (a 23 year Veteran herself). Funding for this initiative came from the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 69, from money raised at some of our meetings, and from material donated by our members and others that heard of our project (as they had mothers that quilted and could no longer quilt or went into Nursing Homers). Overall this initiative provided 84 Bed Quilts (of which 5 were for Palliative Care), 19 Lap Quilts and 8 Afghans.

The Joshua Group

A number of our guild members made Christmas Stockings for the Joshua Group, 96 stockings in all. They were presented to a representative of the Joshua Group during our first meeting of our 2011-2012 season (September, 2011).
