50 things to do before you're 11¾

There is worrying evidence that we are losing touch with the outdoors. Children in particular are spending 60% less time outdoors than their parents did at the same age. With huge areas of coast, countryside and local green space in our care, the Trust is well placed to help reverse this trend and introduce a new generation of young people to the joys (physical mental health benefits) of outdoor activity.

Childhood experiences such as building a den, rolling down a hill, hunting bugs and pond dipping are an essential part of growing up. To help children enjoy the simple pleasures of being outdoors we’ve compiled a list of some of the easiest and fun outdoor experiences we think all children should be able to do before their twelfth birthday. ‘50 things to do before you’re 11¾’ will take you into woods and onto water, up huge hills, down to beach.

Kids can pick up a free ’50 things to do before you’re 11¾’ scrapbook from participating properties start ticking off their outdoor adventures ‘to do’ list. Plus, the fun can continue at home by visiting our website where children

can fill in their completed activities and earn points towards their very own explorer badge. There are lots of great hints and tips to help you and your family enjoy the great outdoors at. . .

Nature is in trouble and needs help. If there's no home for nature, there's no nature. Homes are where we eat, where we sleep, and where we bring up our families. It's just the same for birds and wildlife. No matter how big or small your outside space, everyone can make a difference and create a home for nature. Sign up for simple and fun activities for you and the whole family to give nature a home on your doorstep.
