Window Motor Conversion - Part 2

Modifying wiring and installation

Modifying the Wiring

Modifying the wiring to allow the existing switch to be used with the new 2 wire motor is actually much easier than you might expect. Essentially you need to provide a ground to the free connector on the drivers window switch, and you connect the blue and the green wires from the harness to the blue and the black wires on the new window motor.

Installing the regulator and motor

To install the regulator back into the door power the motor to move the regulator arm to be in the full lowered position

When I first bolted up the new assembly the motor gearbox would contact the frame before the bolts could be fully tightened.

Notice in the picture below that the motor gearbox is against the door however the bolt has not been fully tightened.

The problem stems from the new motor and specifically the gearbox being thicker than the orginal unit.

With a ruler on the gear box you'll notice that the mounting pegs on the far right of the regulator (look like a cylinder) are too short.

Some who have done this conversion have cut out the door frame as outlined in black in the picture below however I wanted to avoid this invasive change.

I tried a few different ideas and eventually settled on some nylon spacers to allow the 4 mounting bolts to be fully tightened.

The regulator arm has some range of motion and with the spacers installed I've not noticed any issues with binding or interference.

The two upper spacers are 1/2 x .257 x 1/4

The two lower spacers are 5/8 x 1/4 x 3/8

I used some ruber tubing to hold the upper spacers in place while installing the regulator

The lower spacers can be installed once the regulator is moved into place
