COE 2012

Dates: May 5 - 8 (Sat - Tue), i.e., 4 days of hiking, 3 overnights.

Participants:

Axel

Esther (1st nite only)

Martin B

Jym

Chuck and Isobel (1st 2 nites only)

Proposed route:

Start from Henry W. COE Headquarters. To get there, proceed south on 101 to Morgan Hill, turn east on E. Dunne Rd, proceed on past Anderson Lake up into hills to park headquarters.

a) Day 1: from Headquarters, hike east to China Hole, next Los Cruzeros, then north on Narrows Trail following Coyote Creek. Camp at about 7 mile point. So if we get on the trail by 10 am or so, we should have no trouble doing this.

b) Day 2: East then north on Bear Mtn Rd to County Line Rd. Continue north on County Line Rd if we can get thru the private property (I think we can), then east on Chaparral Trail, south on Red Creek Trail, camp at Paradise Lake. This is about 9 miles. Paradise Lake is really just a large pond, but one can swim in it.

c) Day 3: South to Pacheco Camp. There are several choices of routes, the easiest is probably to follow Orestimba Ck Rd for most of the way. This is also about 9 miles. Pacheco Camp has both a toilet and shower.

d) Day 4: Hike back to Headquarters. We've done it a couple times in the past, so it's doable.

Note: If the weather reports indicate threat of rain, we either reschedule or cancel.

The following is a proposal (4/17/2012)

Transportation:

Day 1. We will need 3 cars: Car 1) Foxes pick up Jym about 08:00 on the 5th; 2) Esther pick up Martin about 08:00; 3) Axel drive directly to COE. Make cell phone contact while on road as there may not be cell phone coverage at Hdqtrs. Goal is to be at Park Hdqtrs by 09:00. Take Rte 85 then 101 to Morgan Hill, then East Dunne Ave east to COE Park Headquarters.

Day 2. Esther hike back to Headquarters and drives home.

Day 3: Foxes hike back to Headquarters and drive home.

Day 4. The remaining 3 hikers arrive at Headquarters and drive home in Axel's car.
