Advanced Certificate in Leather Technology
The Advanced Certificate In Leather Technology is primarily designed as a two year course but there is flexibility as to the duration of study. It consists of the following modules:
Module 1 / Advanced Level Tanning
Module 2 / Advanced Level Dyehouse
Module 3 / Advanced Level Finishing
This course is run on Level 4 of the SAQA Qualifications Framework. Students will have to have complete the Intermediate Level Course in the subject area of study before enrolling on the Advanced Certificate in Leather Technology course. For example, you will have to complete the Intermediate Level Tanning course before you can register for Module 1. Direct entry onto the Advanced Certificate in Leather Technology course is not permitted.
Each Advanced Level Course is the same as one of the corresponding Modules of the Advanced Certificate in Leather Technology.
All modules are distance education courses only i.e. there is no practical work associated with these courses. However, detailed practical information is included in the course notes, and students are encouraged to apply what they have learnt in their Research and Development departments within the tanneries where they are employed.
Students can study a maximum of three modules per year, but have the option to study only one module should they so wish.
