About ISTT

ISTT was started in 1999 by Dr Clive Jackson-Moss and Mr Karl Flowers.

In its first year of operation, ISTT carried out predominatly on-site training courses within various tanneries in Africa.

In 2000, ISTT was offered the opportunity to buy equipment from a leather research institute that was closing down. This allowed ISTT to start its own experimental tannery where practical training for students was carried out up until the end of 2022. Since 2023, all courses are distance education only.  

In-factory training within tanneries is still carried out by ISTT.

ISTT can tailor make training courses to suite specific customer needs.
