HOCHDORF, vulgairement HUFDKREN (Lucerne), chef-lieu de district, dans une superbe contrée, près du lac de Baldegg et à 3 1. de Lucerne. Il est d'une origine extrêmement ancienne; •St. Conrad, évêque de Constance, doit y avoir consacré la première église déjà en 962. L'église actuelle, d'une vaste et belle construction, est,un des principaux ornements de l'endroit, et elle est desservie par un curé et deux chapelains. La collalure appartient au chapitre de Munster et ta paroisse comprend Unter-Ebersoll , Baldegg, Urswyl, Huwyl, Nunwyl, etc. Il s'y fait beaucoup d'affaires avec les pailles tressées de première qualité de la fabrique de Wohlen. Fortune imposable nette de tous les bourgeois en 1857 : 1 million 523,100 fr.; valeur cadastrale des immeubles: 979,720 fr. On a trouvé dans le voisinage en 1507, près du château en ruine, de Liele, 280 monnaies romaines, la plupart d'argent fin, dans un vase de cuivre; en 1600, on en a retrouvé près de là 600, et en 1682, quelques centaines de Pfenning d'argent. — 1370 hab.
