Lake

The cottage is on a small lake known as Porter Lake. There are only two other cottages on the lake and not very nearby.

The lake itself is lovely, very quiet and it looks different at each different time of day. At one time the water may be wrinkled with wind, opaquely reflecting skylight; at another time still as a mirror, then blue as sky. In summer the water warms up quickly, and it can be swum from June into September most years.

On fall mornings mist rises in the marshes across the way in front of the reds and browns of the tree leaves. Winter sees slight variations of white where the ice under snow is either smooth or not.

There is a south-facing dock on the lake with chairs and umbrellas, kayaks and a canoe nearby and plenty of paddles & lifejackets in the house.

Swimming is primarily off of the dock. You could also paddle across the lake and swim over there.

The lake is small and quiet -- it doesn't connect to anything, there are no power boats on the lake and no boat ramp. If you are interested in motorboating then check out the dock and boat ramp in Bala accessing Lake Muskoka, one of the largest lakes in the area.
