Area
The cottage is near to the small town of Bala in central Muskoka. Bala features Don's Bakery, Annie's Cafe (which makes a great burger), music at the Kee to Bala, a coffee shop with WiFi, a grocery store, an LCBO, a waterfall, a fair bit of maple syrup and quite a few cranberries. There is also a park with playground and beach and things to do in the area. If that doesn't suit then go a little further and you will find a number of spas, high end restaurants, and boat tours.
The entire region is on the Canadian Shield and consequently features numerous lakes ("cottage country"). People who live here are also aware of the great range of wildlife and the many natural variations on water, rock, trees, and ... did I mention water and rock? We're talking rock that is so old it's historic! Now that's Canadian!
