Welding
Welding:
is a fabrication or sculptural process that joins materials, usually metals by causing coalescence. This is often done by melting the workpieces and adding a filler material to form a pool of molten material (the weld pool) that cools to become a strong joint, with pressure sometimes used in conjunction with heat, or by itself, to produce the weld.
The heat source must be hot enough to form a weld pool
It must be possible to concentrate the heat source in a specific area
It must be possible to regulate the temperature
The heat source must be able to move along the joint
The types of Welding included in the Leaving Certificate course include the following:
Manual Metal Arc (MMA) Welding
A section on Robots in Manufacturing can also be included in the Leaving Certificate question.
