There are two main categories of Materials Testing
Destructive testing of materials is often used in order to determine the materials' fundamental mechanical material parameters. Much of mechanical design and verification calculations is based on the parameters obtained from such materials testing.

Non Destructive Testing (NDT) is a wide group of analysis techniques used in science and industry to evaluate the properties of a material, component or system without causing damage.
