Alva Halls

Alva Halls was born on Nov 13, 1895 in Cecil County, North Dakota, and was the son of William Halls and Margaret Miles. The following is a biographical sketch of Alva from The People of Bottineau County 1884-1984.

Alva and Leila Halls

Alva Halls, the son of William Halls and Margaret Myles, was born November 13, 1895, in Cecil Township, where he lived most of his life. When his father retired in 1925, Alva took over the farming operations and continued living there until 1965 when he retired. On June 29, 1920, Alva was married to Leila Arneson of Overly. Their son, Keith, who now lives in Rugby, is present owner and operator of the farm, which was the homestead of his grandfather.During his active years, Alva had been secretary of Overly School Board for twenty-six years; on the Bottineau County Fair Board for twenty-five years; member of the Masonic Lodge for sixty-five years and Kem Temple of the Shrine at Grand Forks.

The Halls’ three children are: William, deceased; Keith living in Rugby; Helen, deceased. There are thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.Leila died in 1967 and Alva in 1983. They are buried in the Overly Cemetery.

Alva was married to Velva McAllister at Phoenix, Arizona, in 1970.

William Halls, the son of Alva and Leila Arneson, was born in December 1922 and died in January 1979. He was married to Martha Bareksten, who was born in 1922 and died in 1946. They had two children: Thomas of Minot and Dianne (Mrs. Barry Larson). His second marriage was to Adeline Hall, and they had two children: Renee (Mrs. Erick Wondrasek) and Dean. Besides spending some years farming William served as Bottineau County Treasurer.
