The events will be divided into small groups called "waves," and each wave will begin three minutes apart.  Typically the FastTry adults will go first, and then the FirstTry adults by age group and finally the kids.

Swim – Easy 300 yard out-and-back swim in Byram Lake.  The water temperature will be between 75 and 80 degrees F.  WARM, COMFORTABLE, SAFE.  Athletes who feel uncomfortable swimming may request the services from any of the number of kayaks that will be lining the course. 

 

Bike – 11.3 mile loop (HELMETS REQUIRED) starting from the transition area located at the beach parking lot at Linden County Park.  The bike course will head south and loop around through Argentine and return back to Linden County Park to the transition area. See Route Maps page

 

Run – 2 miles out and back from the transition area onto the bike path, toward the turn around at soccer fields.

 

Miscellaneous

Awards: All finishers of FirstTry and FastTry will receive an Official FINISHER Medal at the finish line!  Age group awards will be given to FastTry winners only, top 3 in each age group.

 

Ages: All ages are welcome and we will have age groups for the kids too. 

What to wear: Most athletes wear a swimsuit then just throw on either their bike shorts or running shorts for each portion of the event. Bring a large towel if you wish to change. No public nudity, please!

Bike Inspections: Bikes will be checked to see that wheel levers are secure when you arrive in the morning. All handlebars need to be capped on the ends.

Bike Racks in Transition Zone: We have specially designed bike racks that hold your bike and leave room for you to have your running and swimming gear along side. 

Mountain or Road Bike: It does not matter, road bikes are faster but mountain bikes let you check out the scenery a bit better. It is also fun passing a road bike while on your mountain bike. 

Helmets: Mandatory gear - no exceptions!

NO HEADPHONES! - no exceptions!

Transfers/Refunds 

No transfers. 

We will refund the full amount of your registration, minus any registration and USAT fees, if for some reason the event is cancelled for reasons other than weather.  

If you are registered, but unable to race for medical or other serious reasons, please email 1sttrytriathlon@gmail.com for options.  No other refunds will be given!

Bad Weather

Be aware there is always a chance of last minute cancellation or modification of one or more events due to poor water quality or dangerous weather conditions. 

 

Rental Timing Chip

Registered participants agree to use a rental transponder timing chip provided by the race and will return it after the race. If the rental transponder is not returned at the conclusion of the race, the participant will be charged a $35 fee.

NOTE:  As with nearly all triathlons, participating in the event also requires you to have a USAT membership.  USAT stands for United States of America Triathlon, and is the governing body of all multi-sport events, and is also a subsidiary of the United States Olympic Committee.  If you already have a USAT membership, great!  If not, you will have the opportunity to purchase a 1-day adult membership during registration for $15 (1-day youth is $10).  You can also purchase a yearly membership during registration if you plan to participate in several triathlons.  For more information regarding USAT memberships, please visit USAT's website directly.
