Grade 8 Library Learning Commons Bootcamp

Welcome to the Fraser Heights Library Learning Commons

Hello Gr 8 Firehawks! My name is Ms. P-J and I am the librarian at Fraser Heights!

Today you will find out more about both our physical and our virtual  Library Learning Commons! Working in groups of 2-4, you will complete the following activities. You can complete them in any order. You will take a selfie/shelfie for each activity or at each location to show you completed it, as well as fill out a few questions on the physical handout. The first group to correctly answer all the questions and show me all their selfies wins!  Ready, Set, Go!

Activity 1:

Locating Areas of the FH Library Learning Commons

Find the  locations/objects  on the list.  At each location, take a #shelfie with your partner (14 in total)

Activity 2:

Using the catalog to find books for a project

Use the on-line catalog to find non-fiction books about these topics.

Now go find them on the shelf! (Hint: Non-Fiction books are on the shelves along the back walls).

DO NOT remove the books from the shelf.

Just take a #shelfie at the shelf with the books and write down the names of the books and the dewey decimal number (the call number) on your handout (3 in total)

Congrats-you're all done! Make sure you send me your top 3 selflies/shelfies @ parkerjervis_l@surreyschools, or on Teams (Laura Parker-Jervis). You now have a good understanding of where things are in the library and how to use some of the resources here! I hope you'll come visit lots; I love talking about books and helping you find something to read <3
