Sun Protection Ideas For When You Are
On Antibiotics Known To Cause
Sun Sensitivity & Burning
QUESTION- I have to take Doxycycline for Lyme disease, but I am going on vacation now and don't want to get sun burned. What can I do to help protect myself from the sun while I am on the antibiotics?
ANSWER...
Each person is different. Some are extremely sensitive to the sun, some are not, but even those who are not sensitive may become very sensitive while on antibiotics (and stay that way for weeks after stopping antibiotics).
Eyes- Of course, a good pair of sunglasses is a must to help protect your eyes. Consult with an optometrist or your local prescription glasses supplier to help choose what is best for you.
For the skin- use the best sunscreen you can find and reapply as often as the directions state. Limit your time in the sun and be very careful on cloudy days too when many people are burned.
Some people may feel a burning sensation on the backs of their hands (or arms and face), for example, while driving so be sure to cover your hands with sun screen also. Gloves can be worn by those with more sensitive skin.
For additional protection here are some sample products and ideas. I am not promoting these specific products and do not get credits or perks for sharing this informaton with you. However, as I always say- a lobster dinner once in a while would be nice! ~smile~
NOTE- SPF stands for Sun Protection Factor and is the rating you're familiar with for sunscreens and other sun-protective products. It measures the amount of time it takes for sun-exposed skin to redden, while UPF measures the amount of UV radiation that penetrates a fabric and reaches the skin.
