Third Age

The Age of Heroes

In this age, sides were drawn between the forces of order and chaos. Fifty-one champions grew in power. Some led the great Armies of Order. Some led the Forces of Chaos. Others attempted to be neutral or to bridge a peace between the two sides. The superior organization of the Armies of Order led to their many wins of the Forces of Chaos.

Faerlynn watched and directed things. Prophecies from the Second Age were still left to be fulfilled. Faerlynn attempted to squeeze as many of those prophecies as he could into the Third Age, but knew that many would be left to spill over into the Fourth Age. Knowing the apocalypse was inevitable, he watched and did what he could.

Eventually the champions had nearly obliterated all life. Then came the betrayal. Those with evil in their hearts betrayed the others in their armies. In the Forces of Chaos, the champion of the orcs murdered his ally, the champion of the elves. In the Armies of Order, the champion of the goblinoids murdered the champion of the dwarves. Many such betrayals happened, even between the two sisters Lariselle Brodge and Lourienne Brodge. Fifty of the fifty-one champions were slain, and the last had survived only because he had been trapped.

The fifty champions who died, however, rose from the dead to become the deities of the Fourth Age. Many of the prejudices of the Third Age came through to their followers. The distrust between dwarves and elves (As each had served separate sides in the war), the severe hatred between elves and orcs, and many more things could be traced back to the Third Age.

The powerful last ditch spell woven by the powerful Dream Weavers of the Forces of Chaos may have wiped most life from the world, but this apocalypse had been far less severe than the previous two. The Elves of the Second Age, who called themselves "True Elves" to distinguish from the newer elves of the Third Age and later, still survived. The fifty-one champions all survived, fifty as gods and one trapped. Many dragons survived, as well as some creatures that had stayed neutral and hidden. A few other people also survived. Examples would include General Masaryth, the mighty automata Iphque, and one last Dream Weaver.
