With cylindrical-bore flutes the notes begin to flatten in the upper part of the second octave. For my large-bore flutes I offer an internal wedge to adjust the pitch of these notes. For the small-bore flutes I am not making a wedge at this time, however, these notes can be similarly adjusted (raised in pitch) by using alternate fingers from the standard fingering shown above. These alternate fingerings may vary from flute to flute and from key to key, so you need to experiment to see what works best. Here are a few of the alternate fingers for the uppermost second octave notes in the key of D. Of course, the same fingerings can be use for other keys, as well. These fingerings also work for the large bore flute if you have lost or prefer not to use the internal wedge. L1, L2, L3 R1, R2, R3
