Since 2009 was an absolutely terrible year for me keeping up with new music, and especially newalbums, I've created a ranked list that could be described as My Year in Music--featuring the ten (currently-active) artists that featured most prominently in my musical experience this past year, with their most recent release listed in parentheses. In some cases, I possess the album mentioned. For some, I only have a recent Daytrotter session downloaded. Still with other artists, I merely saw them live or heard them frequently on the radio or with friends during the past year. In any event, it's not a proper "best of" album list, but it's as close I can come this year.
You'll also note that I've attached a second file. You see, to quell my feelings of inferiority at barely being able to name ten half-decent albums released in the past year, I took the (completely unnecessary) liberty of compiling my list of the fifty best albums of the previous nine years of the aughts. In other words, being unable to put this past year into a greater context without a little distance, I decided to do a fifty-best of the decade, ignoring only 2009. I trust that you'll kindly share this list with the group also (to make me feel better), and maybe the idea of making a second list will catch fire (to further waste everyone's time).
