Expanding Universe

I believe the universe is expanding, contrary to what Kent Hovind belives.

Scriptures on an expanding universe;

Job 9:8 “He alone spreads out the heavens,”

Psalm 104:2b “Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain.”

Isaiah 40:22 “Who stretches out the heavens like a curtain, and spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.”

Isaiah 42:5 “Thus says God the LORD, Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it, Who gives breath to the people on it,”

Isaiah 44:24 “I am the LORD, who makes all things, Who stretches out the heavens all alone,”

Isaiah 45:12 “I have made the earth, And created man on it. I—My hands—stretched out the heavens, And all their host I have commanded.”

Isaiah 48:13 ”Indeed My hand has laid the foundation of the earth, And My right hand has stretched out the heavens; When I call to them, They stand up together.”

Jeremiah 10:12 “But God made the earth by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding.”

Jeremiah 51:15 “He has made the earth by His power; He has established the world by His wisdom, And stretched out the heaven by His understanding.”

Zechariah 12:1 “The burden of the word of the LORD against Israel. Thus says the LORD, who stretches out the heavens, lays the foundation of the earth, and forms the spirit of man within him:”

Possible solution to the 15 billion light year problem

One of the biggest problems that young earth creationists have is that the universe is about 15 billion light years across. We are supposedly currently seeing light that started from a star 15 billion years ago. That is difficult to explain if the universe is less than 10,000 years old. However if the universe is expanding then that may not be a problem. Let us suppose that when God created the universe it was only 1,000 light years across. So the light from the furthest star would reach us in just 1,000 years. However by that time the star may have moved to be over 1 million light years away. This would explain the red shift caused by the stars rapidly moving away from us as well. This theory does not hold up all that well, if we see stars as 15 billion light years away, then they would actually be much further away by now.

Another solution is that the speed of light is not a constant. The theory of black holes says that light can be bent by the gravitational field of a black hole. If it can be bent then it is not an absolute. Actually in the formula E=MC squared, C is a universal constant, it is not necessarily the speed of light. We also know that the speed of light is related to time, and time did not exist before light and vice versa. We attempt to understand everything in the realm of time, space, matter, and light. Try to imagine a time before time existed or after is no longer exists?
