WW2

In September 1, 1939 Germany invaded Poland. German forces came first to Wysowa from the Slovakian side (Slovakia was occupied as a result of Munich agreement in ?) from the direction of Cegielka through Huta Wysowa. Small border guard unit stationed in Wysowa was no match to invading forces yet offered some resistance. From the Roman Catholic church tower polish border guards opened fire to the invading German forces killing or wounding soldier or officer riding on the motorcycle. This resistance was quickly overwhelmed and polish unit windrow. Germans were furious and started rounding people in the village treating execution. Mediation offered by the gr. cat. priest and school teacher (?) avoided execution of the villagers.

In another incident, German or Ukrainian soldier stationing in Wysowa was killed by resistance fighters. He was on the way to visit Mr. Lopacinski - wealthy owner of sugar mill who had house in "Lopacinski Valey" on the way to Grodek Mountain. There was again treat of reprisals by the Germans and again some mediations (by doctor Gyza) saved lives of villagers.

During occupation:

- number of people were deported to forced slave labor in Germany - some of them were latter imprisoned in Nazi concentration camp in Dahau: Michal Moskal, Michal Ferenc

- border was patrolled by Germans and some Ukrainian units allied with Germany.

- in 1944 number of young people were taken to build German fortifications in expectation of Russian offensive.
