Gilberto Bernardes is a music performer, professor and researcher. He holds a Ph.D. in digital media from the University of Porto (Portugal) under the UT Austin-Portugal Program, a master in music performance from the Conservatory of Amsterdam, a Bachelors in music performance from the Superior School of Music and Performing Arts (Porto, Portugal), and a "Premier Prix" in saxophone and chamber music from the ENM d'Issy-les-Moulineaux.

Bernardes performs regularly across the globe. Of notice his presence at the Seoul International Computer Festival, New York University's NoiseGate Festival, Berklee College of Music (Boston, EUA), International Saxophone Week—with the premier of the saxophone transcription of "Dialogues de l'Ombre Double" by Pierre Boulez—, and the Gaudeamus Music Week. He also counts with several solo performances with orchestras, such as Gulbenkian Orchestra, Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa, and Banda Municipal de A Coruña.

He is an assistant professor at the University of Porto and a senior researcher at INESC TEC. Gilberto does research in sound and music computing and his most recent work focus on cognitive-inspired tonal pitch spaces.
