FLORIDA

"Another glorious day, the air as delicious to the lungs as nectar to the tongue." John Muir

"Moment of Silence"

19x20" acrylic on canvas

NFS

Just as the dawn breaks in the jungle paradise of Florida....

just at that moment... between night and day...

there is a moment of silence...

where nature holds it's breath as the night creatures drift off to sleep for the day

and the day creatures awaken to sing 'good morning' the tropical sun.

The Blue Ridge

Original acrylic on canvas paintings of the mountains of Western North Carolina, Eastern Tennessee and North Georgia by Cindy Walker.

"The mountains are calling and I must go."

"Ocoee Sunset #1"

8x10" Acrylic on Canvas by Cindy Walker

$80

"Hiking - I don't like either the word or the thing. People ought to saunter in the mountains - not hike! Do you know the origin of that word 'saunter?' It's a beautiful word. Away back in the Middle Ages people used to go on pilgrimages to the Holy Land, and when people in the villages through which they passed asked where they were going, they would reply, "A la sainte terre,' 'To the Holy Land.' And so they became known as sainte-terre-ers or saunterers. Now these mountains are our Holy Land, and we ought to saunter through them reverently, not 'hike' through them. " John Muir

Have you ever spent a lazy afternoon by the river... sitting in the shade of the trees and watching the rafters, kayakers and tubers float by. This is one of my favorite spots on the Nantahala. It's the type of place that is perfect for a picnic or just a nice place to sit and reflect, or maybe even do a little fly fishing, if it's the right time of year. Just the sound of the water rushing by is somehow relaxing... makes you want to take your shoes off and put your toes into the cool water... makes you wonder when you can come back and take a raft trip yourself...

"Rafting the Nantahala"

10x20" acrylic on canvas by Cindy Walker

$200

The Nantahala river flows through a deep and winding gorge that shares it's name and runs alongside the highway that you would drive from Murphy NC to Asheville, NC. It is a beautiful drive anytime, but from late Spring to early Fall, and all Summer long, you will see people, like these folks, having a wonderful time rafting through the Nantahala Gorge. This painting stirs up some happy memories for anyone who loves to raft the rivers in the Smoky Mountains

"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass under trees on a summer's day, listening to the murmur of the water, or watching the clouds float across the sky, is by no means a waste of time."

"Down The Road"

12x12" acrylic on canvas by Cindy Walker

This is a typical Appalachian country gravel road lined with tall trees and dappled in the early morning sunlight. This road is in Georgia, close to where I live and near Blue Ridge, GA, but you can see the mountains of North Carolina in the distance. I titled it "Down The Road". It should remind anyone who has spent any time in this area of the Smoky Mountains or really anywhere in the wilderness of looking down the road... down the road to the cabin.... down the road to the lake.... down the road to the river.... down the road to a bright happy day and new adventures to be enjoyed!

"Nature is always lovely, invincible, glad, whatever is done and suffered by her creatures. All scars she heals, whether in rocks or water or sky or hearts." John Muir

Toccoa River Serenity"

18x24" Acrylic on Canvas by Cindy Walker

$450

The Toccoa River Flows North across the border of Tennessee and Georgia and where it crosses the state line into Tennessee it's name changes to the Ocoee River where it is controlled by the TVA and is home to the famous Ocoee Whitewater Center that's a favorite of tourists and locals for whitewater rafting and kayaking. Down here in Georgia it flows from the dam at lake Blue Ridge and meanders gently along through shaded woods. Although access is fairly limited there is a park at Horseshoe Bend near McCaysville where you can spend an afternoon fly fishing or just enjoying the scenery, or you can rent a tube in town and float along the river.
